The Master Cleanse
You need to prepare the master cleanse in the following manner
* 8 oz of water
* Fresh lemon juice of 1/2 a lemon
* Maple syrup-2 tablespoon
* A pinch of cayenne pepper
Consume between 6 to 12 glasses of this juice every day. Continue cleansing for at least 10 days. If you are comfortable, you can continue cleansing for a month.
When you see the color of the tongue change to pink, it is an indication that that the cleansing is done.
While you are not the lemon cleanse, the food intake should be strictly avoided. You can drink either laxative tea or one or two glasses of lemonade. You need to follow the steps mentioned after the cleansing is over and you return to the normal diet.

Effectiveness of Maple Syrup
Maple syrup is unprocessed sugar rich in micronutrients. It has calories too. Maple syrup is a rich source of minerals such as manganese and zinc. For best effects of the Master Cleanse, Burroughs advocates use of grade B maple syrup, as it has more minerals as compared to the lighter grades. Unlike grade A syrup, grade B maple syrup does not contain formaldehyde, and is therefore recommended.
Can the Master Cleanse be classified as Starvation Diet or fast?
Certainly not! The master cleanse is gentle on the body. Unlike fasts, the master cleanse does not in any way affect the normal life of a person. Several people felt energetic and reported normal activity even during the cleansing. You only need to ensure that you use the right ingredients. While lemon, cayenne and water helps in detoxification of the body, maple syrup supplements the calorie needs of the body. Lemon provides vitamin C as well as other nutrients, while you get minerals and vitamins from maple syrup.
