Why Dieting Doesn’t Help?

Many a times, when we feel that we are overweight, we tend to intake less food. We resort to skipping lunch and avoiding dinner or may eat something for namesake, in the frail hope that this way, we will shed the extra pounds that we have accumulated. However, this is not true and contrarily, less intake of food actually acts as hindrance for losing weight.

Remember that people used to diet even million years ago. People ate calorie rich food. Some people starved to cut down the calories. People survived even when the food intake was too low. This is to say that even when out food consumption is low, our mechanism in our body will help us survive.

It is observed in most researches that the food intake of an obese person is same as that of a lean person. The difference is in the fat consumption. Thin people consume more of carbohydrates and intake very low quantity of fat.

Weight loss cannot happen instantly. You will need a detailed weight loss plan, which should contain guidelines and use common sense. Sadly, most of the information that is making rounds is incorrect and in the frenzy of losing weight, people get carried away easily and also lose money.

You will see lots of advertisements in newspapers and magazines about wonder pills or patch, which helps in losing weight in a jiffy. There are many takers for this and billions of dollars are spent by millions of Americans on weight loss and diet programs.

Agreed that most of them lose weight initially, but they regain the weight as easily as they have lost.

Recently a study was conducted to find if there existed any commercial diet plan that was effective in the long run. Unfortunately, there was none. The market is flooded with so many diet products, each making tall claims that FDA had to intervene and conduct checks.
If you are obese or are hugely overweight, than you are prone to suffer from several diseases and health hazards. It is understood that when your calorie intake is high, you are consuming excess of saturated fats.

It is perceived that people tend to gain weight when they consume excessive calories. Agreed that high calorie intake leads to weight gain, but that is however not the reason for most of the Americans being overweight. If we were to compare the calorie intake of Americans now and about 100 years ago, our calorie intake has actually reduced. Therefore, if it was just the calories, we would have all become lean, which is not at all true.

In fact, we are heavier than ever before. One of the causes for this is due to our sedentary lifestyle, where we do not get any exercise at all, but most of all the reason for weight gain is the type of food that we are eating now has changed drastically.

People who are on strict diet, but do not exercise, tend to put on more weight. Initially, you may lose some weight as you follow a diet. However, lose in weight is actually loss in muscles and water and not fat loss. When you regain the weight, you accumulate fat. To avoid this, exercise everyday and improve your metabolism.

Walking is one of the simplest and best exercises. It helps in weight loss, strengthens bones, and tones the muscles. When you choose an exercise program, ensure that you can follow it regularly and with ease.
